Black/red beetle in Páramo, Colombia I believe this was the only insect we saw on this day. Surely there are more, but given the altitude and cold we still found in somewhat surprising to see one at all. 1. Perhaps a blister beetle (Meloidae), such as Mylabris sp. The thoras isn't a perfect match though. It also resembles Nicophorus sp, but the antennae are not at all a match. So, hmm. I'd vote for Meloidae at this point. Posted 6 years ago
    1. Thanks! At Facebook two people were convinced it's Astylus sp. What do you think? Posted 6 years ago
      1. Hmm. Could be. I had considered that genus as well, but ruled it out because I thought that Astylus sp. were fuzzy and punctate. It's certainly a possible ID though. Posted 6 years ago
  2. Definitely Astylus sp. and Melyridae. I do not know how variable these beetles may be. The one I saw in Ecuador was Astylus bonplandi. Posted 6 years ago
