Fireweed - Senicio madagascariensis

Introduced species which has become a problem in Australian coastal sand dunes in some areas

  1. Ernst, I'm not sure this is Senicio madagascariensis as the leaves are highly dissected instead of simple and lanceolate with a few marginal teeth. Sometimes though the leaves can be pinnatifid like your photo shows. On the other hand, Senecio pinnatifolius (native to Australia) is a possibility as it also has pinnatifid leaves. Do you have any other photos of this plant?

Here are two sources I've found on these species:

      1. Gary , I have come up with Senecio pinnatifolius var lanceolatus - Common coast groundsel. The distribution according to
The Atlas of Living Australia is correct. Unfortunately I am not advanced enough with computers and I still have to learn how to copy and paste. Let me know wat you think.
