Eastern Fence Lizard (Sceloporus undulatus)
This beauty startled me when I was walking around the edge of a dense mixed forest. I didn't even notice this beast (it was about 6 inches long and quite fat!) resting on an upright, rotting oak stump beside me until I was very close! I'm so glad it was willing to take some photos with me.

The eastern fence lizard is a medium-sized species of lizard found along forest edges, rock piles, and rotting logs or stumps in the eastern United States. It is sometimes referred to as the prairie lizard, fence swift, gray lizard, northern fence lizard or pine lizard.
