White Pine Angle - Macaria pinistrobata
Tiny caterpillar that was no more than 15 mm long - it was the size of a pine needle, which is what I initially thought it was! They rest and feed along pine needles. The reddish brown marking on the head resembles a pine needle sheath.
Habitat: Spotted by my son (who insisted it was a caterpillar after I had brushed it off as just being a pine needle). It was on a wooden post that was under a white pine (Pinus strobus) tree.
