White Pine Angle - Macaria pinistrobata Tiny caterpillar that was no more than 15 mm long -  it was the size of a pine needle, which is what I initially thought it was!  They rest and feed along pine needles. The reddish brown marking on the head resembles a pine needle sheath.<br />

Habitat: Spotted by my son (who insisted it was a caterpillar after I had brushed it off as just being a pine needle). It was on a wooden post that was under a white pine (Pinus strobus) tree.<br />

''Macaria pinistrobata'', the white pine angle, is a moth of the family Geometridae. It is found in Nova Scotia, Maine, Quebec, Ontario, Michigan, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Maryland, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.

There are one to two generations per year. The larvae feed on ''Pinus strobus''.
