  1. Possibly Mischocyttarus sp.? Posted 7 years ago
    1. I don't think the waist is long enough on this individual, is it?

This looks closer to some sort of Paper wasp (similar to Polistes carnifex)? I would think something in that genus.

      1. Could be. Mischocyttarus sp. is a kind of paper wasp. I thought the waist looked long, but maybe it isn't. I'm not sure from this photo. When, I first saw the photo, I was on my iPhone and just threw out the suggestion mostly based on coloring and memory.

Here's a shot of a similar looking one:

        1. I'm unsure about the waist. I just can't tell if it is long or not... Posted 7 years ago
          1. We are definitely in the right family (Vespidae).

I think this individual looks closer to a Polistes sp. than Mischocyttarus sp. The photo on Andreas' page showcases that elongate (thin) petiole typical of the genus. The photo here shows a petiole that is a lot more thick/truncate. <3 So pretty.

I could be entirely wrong though!

          2. I check some (failed) shots of other angles and can confirm this one has a short waist. Posted 7 years ago
            1. That rules out Mischocyttarus sp.! Posted 7 years ago
