Large horsefly - top view, La Isla Escondida, Colombia

Found in the canopy on the wooden construction of the bird watching tower (tower 2) in La Isla Escondida. Pretty large individual, beautiful all-green eyes and a white beard.

  Specifically, Pityocera ecuadorensis or Pityocera cervus. These are really hard to find photos of, and your are probably some of the best on the internet! Posted 6 years ago
