Mushroom-tongued salamander - top view, La Isla Escondida, Colombia Opening day 2 at La Isla Escondida with a very early morning find.

The genus is Bolitoglossa. According to our local guide, they are very rare in Colombia, where only 2 species are known: peruviana and altamazonica. He isn't sure yet which one it is, and there's even the possibility of a new report. He will ask an expert in Bogota about it.

Species in this genus are known for their ability to project their tongue at prey, as well as for having very webbed feet. This one seems to be missing the tail, but it should regrow.
