Immature Fungus (possibly Mycena sp.) on Rotting Wood

Immature fruiting body growing inside highly rotted wood (likely hardwood) in a dense mixed forest.

Bases are white, bulbous, and hairy/fuzzy.

Not sure if an ID is possible at this stage.

    Ack, hope it makes it to maturity! It was -2F here this morning, and the last of the stinkhorns in my yard flopped over from the cold last night. They weren't fully grown yet, but I guess the cold was too much... Posted 6 years ago
