Dendrobium Orchid - Dendrobium sabahense

Was originally given the ID of Dendrobium babiense but later told not likely, still the same genus though.
Its a very small Orchid, of less than 1 cm in size.

  Quite several species of Dendrobium orchids are very similar like D. kiauense also. This species we found have a very distinct double lip hanging down which is similar to D. aloifolium. Hope it is a new species instead. Posted 6 years ago, modified 6 years ago

Went to a bookshop recently to search for orchid books to identify this. Turns out this is a rare endemic species - Dendrobium sabahense. Your photo of this flower is the first in public internet! Posted 6 years ago

  The only reference I have that shows the photo of this orchid is the "Dendrobium of Borneo" book by Jeffery J. Wood who discovered this species himself back in 2008.

Very pretty. I love tiny orchids. I once visited an orchid grower in Borneo who grew the tiniest orchids imaginable. Just wish I’d known about Jungledragon then! Posted 6 years ago

The Dendrobium sabahense

Dendrobium sabahense is a species of Orchid from the family of Orchidaceae.

Stems erect to hanging, 15-63 cm long. Leaves 3.7-4.5 x 0.5-1.4 cm flattened, obliquely elliptic, acute to acuminate. Inflorescences borne along distal leafless portion of stem. Flowers 1 cm long, 1.1-1.3 cm across. Sepals 5-7 x 3.5-4.2 mm. Mentum 3-4.5 mm long, broadly conical, obtuse. Petals 4.5-4.7 x 2mm.
