Bright Orange Russula sp. Halloween-y?
Growing beneath pines and oaks on a ridge in a dense mixed forest in NW Georgia (Gordon County), US. October 14, 2018.
I suppose I'm not really expecting a species-level ID (without microscopy), but if anyone has any suggestions I'd be interested!
Odor pleasant to indistinct.
Flavor starts out pleasant. Texture is extremely crumbly to chalky. After a few moments tastes slightly spicy. Dries mouth out considerably.
Cream-colored stem has darker (burnt orange/brown) staining
