Dekay's Brown Snake - Storeria dekayi Small, tan snake with two rows of dark brown spots down its back. Small, tan snake with two rows of dark brown spots down its back. This snake was approximately 10-12 cm long.

Habitat: Spotted along the bank of a river in a deciduous forest. We spotted 2 of them (not together). This one showed no fear and let me hold it for several minutes. I was trying to get a shot of it licking the air, but couldn't capture it.

      I like to hold snakes and other creatures, as long as they seem willing. Plus, I knew that this snake wasn’t venomous and doubted it’s bite would hurt that much because it was so tiny. But, it was totally calm and just relaxed in my hand :). Posted 6 years ago
