Unknown Seaweed I have no idea what this is! Maybe a weird, red Ascophyllum nodosum? Or, Nemalion helminthoides? Or, Sarcodiotheca gaudichaudii?<br /> <br /> It was bright red with some orange new growth. I have no idea what this is! Maybe a weird, red Ascophyllum nodosum? Or, Nemalion helminthoides? Or, Sarcodiotheca gaudichaudii?

It was bright red with some orange new growth. Also, it had red bladders on the main stems, which were reddish brown.

Habitat: On a beach in the lower intertidal zone.

    Definitely not an expert, but it looks like Sarcodiotheca gaudichaudii to me! Posted 6 years ago

      The color definitely fits with that species, but the bladders don't. I haven't gotten much feedback on an ID yet, except that there is some agreement that it looks like Ascophyllum nodosum. The color is totally off though. A. nodosum is snarky green-brown. This was definitely vibrant red! I have no idea what would make it red. WEIRD. Posted 6 years ago
