    1. Thanks, it sure was a beauty! Thankfully, someone ID'd it online for me because I was in a rush when I took the picture, and neglected to get a shot of all the prolegs. I was guessing sawfly, but without the confirmation of counting those fleshly, little legs. Posted 7 years ago

A member of the family Diprionidae (conifer sawflies), the pine sawfly is a species native to Europe and introduced to North America in the early 1900s. It lives its life cycle in coniferous trees where, if a large enough population is found, it can stunt the growth of its host tree.
