Bolete Mushroom

Gorgeous and gross! This bolete was pretty rotten. The large size, toughness, and brownish cap make me suspect it's Tylopilus sp.

Growing on a mossy, overgrown hiking trail beside a small stream.

  Yep. I saw several grody ones similar to this. One had turned into a slimy pile of goo and was covered in flies, rove and carrion beetles. Pretty cool. Posted 7 years ago
