Undescribed Species (Amanita sp.) Growing under a large oak (near hickories) in a dense mixed hardwood/coniferous forest in NW Georgia (Gordon County), US.<br />
<br />
There was a huge debate on Mushroom Observer over whether this was a species of Lepiota or Amanita, but it seems that it may be an undescribed species of Amanita. The flat (non-conical) warts, the lack of gray volval material on the stem, and the lack of a rooting stipe  rule out Amanita onusta. <br />
<br />
Unfortunately (and I&#039;m kicking myself for this), I didn&#039;t collect any specimens that day. Wish me luck in finding another one of these soon! See the debate here:<br />
