Palomena prasina 4days
Part of a series of early development in Palomena prasina nymphs:
A few days before hatching the eyes and other structures become visible inside the eggs:
When hatching the Palomena kids come out pale greenish:
After an hour they already have more colour:
7 hours later all have hatched and colour is already beginning to change to yellowish hues:
Soon the nymphs will wander off and leave the empty shells behind:
After a few days they become darker reddish brown
After this, they will moult into a 2nd instar nymph, starting out pale green again ...

The green shield bug is a shield bug of the family Pentatomidae. It may also be referred to as a green stink bug, particularly outside of Britain, although the name green stink bug more appropriately belongs to the larger North American stink bug, ''Acrosternum hilare''.

Unfortunately, I think I set these free shortly after this part of the "series", which therefor only shows the eggs and first stadium - hardly a development cycle, but I should have plenty of images of other stages as well so I suppose I could at some point create a collage showing the complete cycle or so ... oh, those future plans! ... ;o) Posted 7 years ago, modified 7 years ago
Can't wait for your other stuff and continued needless modesty ;) Posted 7 years ago
and _always_ feel free to edit my stuff if you feel it may improve things(!)
I edit other people's descriptions etc. too and feel it is a collaborative effort to get things presented as good as possible, which is actually one of the nice features of JD IMHO :o) Posted 7 years ago
But not all are alike, and I generally do not interfere (much) in titles and descriptions. I do edit titles that I absolutely cannot stand, for example "DSC89438942" or something meaningless like that :) Posted 7 years ago, modified 7 years ago
