Golden Pheasant, Zie-Zoo, Netherlands This bird is so common in zoos, farms and other places of domestication that its appearance has been normalized, similar to the peacock. Still if you look with fresh eyes at this bird, I cannot help but see one of the most spectacular birds there is. <br />

Anyway, earlier we established that this pheasant found in the same zoo....<br />

This is not the &quot;pure&quot; species, quite likely it is the Lady Amherst&#039;s-golden cross, a hybrid with the Gold Pheasant. The way to tell is that the pure species&#039; red patch begins at the back of the head, not at the base of the beak as seen here. <br />

The Golden Pheasant or "Chinese Pheasant", is a gamebird of the order Galliformes and the family Phasianidae. It is native to forests in mountainous areas of western China but feral populations have been established in the United Kingdom and elsewhere.
