Common Sawfly Larva - Periclista sp.
The body was pale green/translucent and it had split, black spines. In this photo, you can clearly see the prolegs on all of the abdominal segments, which helps to distinguish sawfly larvae from caterpillars. Caterpillars and sawfly larvae both have three pairs of true legs, one on each thoracic segment. But, most sawfly larvae also have prolegs on all of their abdominal segments, while caterpillars have prolegs on some abdominal segments, but never on the first two abdominal segments.
It was feeding on oak in a deciduous forest.
