Yellow-eared Parrot perched, Jardin, Colombia
A severely threatened parrot species that came from near extinction (population: 80) to a successful recovery of about 1500 individuals reported in 2012. The Yellow-Eared Parrot Bird Reserve is named after the species and is full of wax palms, a species of tree closely associated with this species, and also under threat.
In this reserve, you have reasonable odds of seeing this species fly over, as they are loud like all parrots. Getting them in photography range, however, is another matter. This is the only nearby glimpse of the species we got. I remember having to stand on the tip of my toes to get a somewhat clear view.
Habitat impression:

The yellow-eared parrot is an endangered parrot of tropical America. It is found in the Andes of Colombia and Ecuador and is closely associated to the wax palm "Ceroxylon sp." which is itself endangered.
