Holarctic habitat are the birch woods of Europe, N. America, north Asia, Marocco, Greenland,
fruit bodies growing from May to November on lowlands to higher mountain levels.
In German it is called the "Verblassender Täubling" which means "Fading Russula"; that's because of the fading pink color they show as an immature to a greyish white with a pale redish rim as adults.
The caps are 5-10 cm wide, stem 5-7 cm tall.
It's not toxic but it tastes spicy/hot and is no mushroom for cooking.
