Mega Scorpion at night, Uraba, Colombia During an epic night tour in Uraba, we were still pumped from two consecutive snakes found in mere minutes, when I spotted this unusually large scorpion only a few inches from my head sitting on the bark of a tree. The photo is rotated and HDR processed. Of course, macro blows up the size of this scorpion, but it truly is large as evidences by the ant you can see directly below its stinger :)<br />

  1. A giant scorpion - I love it! Good thing that it wasn't in your bedroom. Posted 5 years ago
    1. Thanks for putting that thought into my head :) Posted 5 years ago
  2. Whoa! A great reason why you don't lean against anything in the rainforest. It could have been on your head. Posted 5 years ago
    1. That definitely is one of our main rules, especially at night. Another one is to wear a cap and walk head tilted down. Mostly to avoid all the cog webs on my face lol. Posted 5 years ago
      1. Haha, good rule, especially since the cob webs could have giant, hairy spiders. Do you wear boots too? I know some people who live in jungle-ish places, and to my horror, I've seen them in sandals or barefoot in the jungle. Posted 5 years ago
        1. We normally use half-high hiking shoes with thick socks and put the ends of our pants into those socks, to close off any opening. In Colombia specifically, we used rubber boots mostly, as we still got our socks wet with the hiking shoes, and its quite painful to walk all day with wet feet.

Locals don't seem to care about any such protection, indeed :)
