
Large flightless katydid with lengthy legs, Utria National Park, Colombia
This is one of my favorite insect shots of our trip. In part because it's a cool looking insect, but mostly because it shows what my new camera, the Nikon D850, is capable of. Shooting from hand, it's nearly impossible to get a shot fully sharp and unmoved at the 100% pixel level due to 45.7MP sensor. And that's ok, because you normally wouldn't view an image zoomed in that far.
But every once in a while you get lucky and nail it. This is one of such shots. Check out how much detail remains in the 100% crop:
In other words, I can never really blame my gear for a failed shot. It's either me or the conditions :)
