    1. The genus is generally called "Chocolate Tube Slime Mold" or "Tree Hair" with some variations. I just prefer the "Chocolate Tube Slime Mold" name, and I think that whoever came up with it was a creative, chocolate-lover! I was also thinking that this could be Stemonitis splendens, but there are a bunch of species in this genus, and apparently they can only be distinguished with microscopy. So, I just left it as Stemonitis sp. They grow in this spot every year though, so next summer I will get a specimen. Posted 7 years ago
