  1. Nice new series Martin *thumb* Must be hard to get the lighting right with all the reflection on those shiny critters :o) Do you flash at all? Direct? Indirect?

    1. Yes Arp. The flash is (of course) the twin lite MT 24EX with lots of homemade diffusion and cranked down to minus 2&2/3 so they don't get washed out. It is literally a portable lightbox and relies on zero ambient light. I first bought a CANON ringflash which is entirely useless for glossy subjects because you cannot control diffusion that close. The lens is a dedicated macro ME 65mm which captures 1: 1 to 1: 5 but I use 1:1 always. It is very limited and difficult to use but absolutely perfect for my purposes and $1000 well spent. Anything larger than a beetle needs a 100mm macro lens which is wonderfully flexible . Posted 7 years ago
