There are nearly 2 million insects species described nowadays, most of them that can only be identified by genitalia dissection and a great bunch of them by genetics. Diptera is one of that main Orders of insects, with nearly 200.000 species, that is a completely headache for entomologists. By looking to a single photo is virtually impossible to downgrade it to species level. Even the Genus level is, sometimes, very hard to attribute. JD species file are created when the species is fully known, and that it can be checked by photo. Far from being an Diptera expert I can share to you that most of my Diptera observations are classified at Genus (that's awesome), and the remaining bunch only at Family level. Only a few, are identified species. So, no problem whatsoever, there are million yet to be described. Keep on going! ;) Cheers my friend. Posted 8 years ago
