Velvet-Ant Mimic Spider - Myrmarachne sp (?) Small Spider, less than 1 cm, and slender, shaped like an ant. It was actively moving and as it moves, it &#039;waves&#039; its first pair of legs like the antennae of ant. At first glance, I had thought it was a &#039;velvet ant&#039; based on the patterns of its abdomen.<br />

Velvet-Ant Mimic Spider - Myrmarachne sp (?)

Small Spider, less than 1 cm, and slender, shaped like an ant. It was actively moving and as it moves, it 'waves' its first pair of legs like the antennae of ant. At first glance, I had thought it was a 'velvet ant' based on the patterns of its abdomen.

Possibly from the genus Myrmarachne.

  1. Fantastic - clearly it doesn't know what species it wants to be. I'm a spider that looks like an ant that's actually a wasp! Posted 8 years ago
