Stick Insect, Phasmid
This is a female Phasmid of the species - Orestes draegeri.
I found it in a forested area just a few hundreds meters behind my family's flat in Penang.
There is only one species placed under the genus Orestes.
This species is interesting as they have been found to be Parthenogenetic, only females among them, especially for those known from Penang and some parts of Peninsular Malaysia.
However, in recent years, an expedition group found another population from Thailand that is sexual.
I believe there is a study into their DNA to compare the different populations to see how they have evolved over the years in parthenogenesis and in sexual breed.
