The Field Rose
Rosa arvensis
This European native wild rose can be commonly found as a hedge, where it can grow as a shade-tolerant creeper up to 10 feet. It is relatively disease-free. Creamy white flowers are about 1.5 inches wide with showy yellow stamens. They can grow both as solitary or in clusters during peak seasons. This rose has a slight scent which many claim they cannot detect. Oval shaped hips are red when ripe. Stems are thin and dark green, with many thorns. The Field Rose looks excellent in a desert landscape, preferably where there is plenty of filtered sun.
