Paropsisterna sp.

This beetle looks like Paropsisterna lignea. However it is closely related and a different species. Beetles in the lignea complex that I have not yet seen are P. io and P. geniculata. These both occur further north, in the Blue Mountains near Sydney. Neither is a good match in my view. This is possibly Paropsisterna io but possibly an undescribed species. It was not uncommon where I found it although only on one peak. Therefore it is likely to have been encountered before and considered to be P. lignea. It does not exist in the main three museum collections
