Pink Leaf / Flower

We've had a lot of rain and I've found some new wildflowers in our veldt and am trying to get them ID's but am battling. if you have any suggestions who I could contact that would be great. This is a fascinating plant as it's leaves and the leaves turn this beautiful pink and there are a lot of different shaped "flowers"

I suspect that this is not a flower but some kind of disease or pest that is causing this odd shaped growth. This could be either a fungus or a terminal bud gall. There is something that looks much more like flowers in the base of the pink stem. Do you have another photo that shows other parts of the plant which are not pink? Posted 8 years ago
