    1. Thanks! If it is a Cissia, could it perhaps be Cissia Penelope?

The reason I'm saying that is because I have photographed a local booklet of the area that documents the butterfly species there. Chloreuptychia arnaca and Cissia Penelope are right next to each other in the booklet, yet there is no mention of Cissia terrestris. That doesn't mean it's not Cissia terrestris, but the documentation is pretty solid so far. Shall I perhaps email you those photos?

      1. I'm sure it's not Cissia penelope, it's very different. OK send me the booklet, I'll check the other options. There are a few genera that have similar spots. I got a little confused last night because I was checking a similar butterfly from Costa Rica and forgot that this one is from Colombia. Cissia terrestris seemed like a good match but on some of the photos the spots between the big eyespots have an elongated shape that's why I am not sure about it. It is also known as Euptychia terrestris.

        1. I think "very different" is overstating it a bit, but the eyes do look different and I agree that Cissia terrestris is a better match. I found this reference in particular to be very convincing:

          1. Compared to the other species which have more common spots Cissia penelope is very different.
Indeed, it is based on this photo that I suggested the species but then I found other photos of it to be different and other species to be similar so I don't know what to do with it now.
None of the other species from the booklet matches either. One of them has more eyespots while the others have more stripes.
