Large stick insect (Dyme sp.), Santa María, Colombia
When Albert Kang joined JungleDragon a few months ago, he pretty much defined the category of stick insects in our community by introducing over a hundred species, opening a world unknown to me before. Inspired by that heroic effort, I felt obliged to specifically look for stick insects on our recent trip to Colombia. Here's the first one. I particularly like how the stick insect curves in parallel to the stick it is on. Check out Albert's work here:

They are Dyme spinicollis and Dyme tacanae.
As the name spinicollis imply, is a spiny one, whereas your picture doesn't shows any spines.
Dyme tacanae was recorded from the location Rio Tacana. Do you have the exact location where you saw this one, Ferdy? Posted 8 years ago
I try to google Rio Tacana or Tacana but get nothing from Columbia.
The species Dyme tacanae is named after the location - tacana/tacanae. Posted 8 years ago
Unfortunately, I can't seems to locate Rio Tanaca in Colombia :(
I guess, best to leave the ID to Dyme sp. Posted 8 years ago
