Sawfly (Lophyrotoma sp) A dramatic looking sawfly with bright reddish-orange thoracic patches and abdomen. The abdomen showed short bands of black near the tip. The antennae, head, thorax and wings were a glossy black, making this a striking insect in the sun and amongst the bright white flowers.<br />

  2. Beautiful specimen! Are they easy to capture in photo or are they as restless as other symphyta? Cheers Posted 8 years ago
    1. Just as restless Felix. They are quite big so you might get lucky and a few out of multiple shots might turn out well. This one was so close to me and beautifully cooperative but my camera did not work at that very minute. I think half the valley heard me swearing ! He then moved away but just a little bit so I could get some shots. Love the orange.... Posted 8 years ago
