Chacma Baboon - Papio ursinus This was a fun encounter when we came across a group of Baboons at Cape Peninsular.
Most cars stopped to take closer look and pictures. One of the Baboon decided to climb a car and sat down on the roof for quite some time and doesn't looks like it was to get down. Eventually, the driver of the car decided to drive off with the Baboon.
2. These encounters are not so funny most of the time and certainly not funny for the people who live there.

Warning, this is the episode of Inside Nature's Giants mentioned in the link above. They are starting to dissect the baboon sometime in the middle of the movie.

    1. Yes, understandably.
The main problem is actually human/tourists who tried to feed them to get better close-encounters with them. And after some time, this Baboons and Monkeys associated tourists with food. Many incidents happened in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia whereby the Macaques will grab bags, caps, hats, phones and other accessories from tourists. Can be very scary encounters.

    2. I agree with that, and also that the encounters can be quite scary. In South Africa, we saw baboons quickly sneaking into a door of a tourist lodge, stealing medicines and rushing of. With a very scared lady inside. They are incredibly strong and you just don't know what they are going to do. In Sri Lanka, we were in a hotel where nobody dared to enter the balcony, because it would be raided by macaques multiple times a day. Posted 9 years ago

The chacma baboon is from the Old World monkey family. It is one of the largest of all monkeys. Located primarily in southern Africa, the chacma baboon has a wide variety of social behaviors, including a dominance hierarchy, collective foraging, adoption of young by females, and friendship pairings.
