Grypocoris stysi Grypocoris stysi and G. sexguttatus have been confused and mixed-up historically, so older records have to be interpreted with care. The current status in Fauna Europaea (2016-11 but last updated in 2011) would have stysi occurring in Spain and sexguttatus in Portugal, but both not vice versa.<br />
That makes this photo not only the first species record for Portugal on the JD site (and for the site as a whole), but also probably the first &quot;published&quot; record for Portugal for science ;o) Grypocoris stysi,Heteroptera,Miridae,Portugal Click/tap to enlarge PromotedSpecies introCountry intro

  1. Hi RM,
This one seems to be a problem. Grypocoris stysi and sexguttatus have a long history of confusion and names being synonymized and even interchanged (!! sic!). To my current knowledge this photo shows a specimen with all the markings of Grypocoris stysi (margins of corium mainly yellow, shape of spots on pronotum more typical for stysi), so I would be tempted to change the ID to that species.
BUT, G.stysi is not listed for Portugal by Fauna Europaea and sexguttatus is ... :-/
The Heteroptera on FE are maintained by Berend Aukema, so I'll ask him what is up with that, because I seem to remember reading an article on both species from the Iberian peninsula.

    1. That would be very nice if you provide the correct info after the analysis also by Berend Aukema, if you please. I really didn't know what to consider given the fact that it was not quoted for the territory, therefore I kept it to be confirmed, I remember I had some doubts, also. I cannot send you any more records of this specimen, this was the only fair shot. Thank you so much! Grypocoris stysi would be much better ;) Cheers Posted 8 years ago
      1. Hi RM,
Berend came back to me with an answer quickly (thanks Berend!) and he has no doubt that this is indeed stysi. He also concurs that he has no knowledge of previous publication for this species from Portugal, so that could possibly make it a first record for your country too (unless someone is sitting on unpublished data?).
        Congratulations! :o)
P.S. Any chances of finding it again next year? As always, a caught specimen would be good to confirm/document the country-record ....

        1. Species intro in now on! You can proceed with ID. Thanks so much for your time! See ya, cheers Posted 8 years ago
        2. I'll probably go visit that location again next year. And I must say that is an incredible and unique location indeed, It would be very good spot and capture a specimen, of course. I'll keep that as a priority! Thanks again! cheers Posted 8 years ago, modified 8 years ago
          1. Excellent - ID completed :o) In future feel free to go ahead and add the ID yourself, I have no "honour" in having these things attributed to me or some such, just wish for it to be presented correctly.
Hope you'll find another specimen - good luck with that! :o)
