    1. Thanks, Martin for the ID and they are a beauty!
Too bad I didn't take a better picture of it :(

      1. Yes its a spectacular click beetle.
Maybe it was not fair to show you the flickr image.
At least its an easy one to identify. Most times elateridae are impossible.

        1. Well, at least I know how pretty they can be as I have seen some different Click Beetles from Malaysia, not so colourful and there was even a large Click Beetle, that just pretend to be dead, which was no fun to take picture of. Posted 9 years ago
    2. These two don't look exactly the same. One has red legs, the other has brown. The stripes are not the same. This one doesn't have the black spots at the edge of the pronotum. This photo is from Ecuador and Semiotus imperialis is not on the list of species from Costa Rica.
Here is a collection of them and a list of species from Costa Rica but I cannot find a perfect match there either.

There's also this very detailed description of the genus Semiotus for whoever has the time to read it.

Semiotus exsolutus could be a candidate but I am not sure.

      1. Thanks, WildFlower for the thorough observations and research!
I guess its better that I just labelled this Click Beetle as Semiotus sp?
I know lots of insects, its hardly possible to be certain of the specific IDs, especially with just 1 picture :(
