Crinoid Spawning This Crinoid spawning was encountered during a night dive.  Crinoids are from the Phylum of Echinodermata, same as all Sea Stars or Star Fishes.<br />
<br />
Crinoids are dioecious, with separate male and female individuals.  They spawn by releasing the eggs or sperms into the water column.  Other individuals nearby will then do the same and hopefully the current will bring them together and some of the eggs get fertilized.  As the eggs/sperms were being released, they were already being predated by Shrimps/Krills as can be seen in both the picture and the video.<br />
