Crane fly I found this fellow on my own front door. I&#039;m pretty sure this one is a native crane fly, not an invader, but I&#039;m working on which one.<br />

I found this fellow on my own front door. I'm pretty sure this one is a native crane fly, not an invader, but I'm working on which one.

    1. Don't they - about as big as my hand, with a big snout and nasty tail - but completely harmless, very fragile actually. I would guess this one was quite newly emerged, as it has all of it's legs and it's wings aren't raggedy. Posted 9 years ago

  2. Hmmmmmm I have found on a Washington native crane fly site a really good match for this *but*... I cannot find any other information under the name they gave it at all - Tipula unincincta
    female, (Doane) - also spelled Tipula unincinta on the same web page. There must be a synonym out there, but dratted if I can find it...
