    Well, having said that.... I think this is a Picture-winged fly (Ulidiidae) but there are many species, not sure if I can find the right one. Posted 9 years ago

    Never mind everyone! Thanks to Claire's tip about it being a Picture-Winged fly, I have managed to find that it is a Delphinia picta – thats at least its scientific name. Its common name I am not sure of yet, but at least this fly has been identified :) Posted 9 years ago

    Delphinia picta is from the eastern parts of the USA not Congo, Africa. The wing patterns are different too.
    NatGeo has a shot of exactly your fly but no scientific name

    Oh shame, I did look at D.picta but as Mark says, wing pattern all wrong. I have looked at various others too but still, wing pattern wrong and that face! I can't find anything with that face! Posted 9 years ago
