Euphydryas colon

I'm pretty sure this is an E. colon - but I'm not sure if there is a consensus on whether or not colon is a checkerspot species or just a subspecies of chalcedon… Wildflower?

Most sites including ITIS (or based on it) refer to E. colon with it's own subspecies. Bugguide suggests it is a subspecies but they quote some older references so I would go for the species.
In Wikipedia it seems to be included in E. chalcedona although the subspecies are not listed.

The more you dig the more confusing it gets. I also found a "valid" species Occidryas colon Edwards, 1881 which has different synonyms according to the source...
