Papilio Memnon - Great Mormon female
The female is a lot more colourful than the male, and a lot more diverse in its livery patterns. This is how the Mormon butterfly gets its name, as the Mormon is permitted to have many wives, so it seems that the Mormon butterfly too has many wives.
This is one version of the great Mormon female that I see, but even here, you can see some slight variations.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.
"Papilio memnon", the great Mormon, is a large butterfly native to southern Asia that belongs to the swallowtail family. It is widely distributed and has thirteen subspecies. The female is polymorphic and with mimetic forms.
