Gasteracantha sp. - Spiny Orb Weaver
Gasteracantha spiny orb weaver spiders are an amazing sight to behold. I still remember the first one that I ever saw, before I started all this bugging around. I had no idea what it was, and with no internet, no way of finding out. For all I knew, it could have been deadly poisonous, so I gave it a wide berth.
I can find very similar species, but no match. If the species is documented, then the information is not readily available on the web. For example; G. westringi of Australia is very close.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.
