Eriovixia laglaizei - Laglaise's Garden Spider

Here is a linked series of nine dorsal views of this species. I am assuming that they are all the same species, as the images were all shot within a few metres of each other.

As for the actual species name, I have no chance of finding out.

Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.

Amazing. That really highlights variation surpassing inter-species differences. Great collection to compare anyway.
Eriovixia laglaisei looks an excellent choice. One problem is the spelling. It seems like most of the 'credible' taxonomy sites are going with the 'z' while common use is mostly 's'. Overall about 50-50...

  Sorry, my bad, I didn't notice the difference. I guess the WSC should be correct - Eriovixia laglaizei (Simon, 1877).

    Amazing history there. Did you notice Simon had Epeira laglaisei in 1877? (with an 's')

      Yes, it is an "s" in the name Laglaise - the person who actually collected the specimens, but it is pronounced as "z" in French, maybe that's why it was changed to comply with the Latin pronunciation rules. Posted 9 years ago
