Erionota thrax – Palm Redeye Skipper
You are never far from a banana tree, so bugs associated with bananas are bound to be present. But, surprisingly, very few bugs can tackle the banana leaf. In fact, I think the only banana leaf feeding bug I have in my collection, is the caterpillar of this butterfly.
The red eye is an indication that this butterfly, is a low light variety and is mainly active in the early hours of the day, feeding on the banana flower.
Location is Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Alongside a stream and paddy fields.

"Erionota thrax" is a butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae. It is found from India, through south-eastern Asia to Papua New Guinea. In the north it is found up to southern China. It is an introduced species on various Pacific islands, including the Solomon Islands and Hawaii.
