Corydalus imperiosus We were just leaving our friend's house when Soo called me back... look here is a totally weird insect for you.
Got the camera and took about 10 shots. To me it was clearly a neuroptera species, but which one.
Luckily , there was this article.
1. Excellent find. Looks painful. Posted 9 years ago
  2. How are you sure it is the species Corydalus imperiosus? I couldn't find much specific information for this species. According to this list it is only found in Argentina.

    1. ok done it I couldn't find a credible photo of the other one but read through Prof. Contreras Ramos paper and that must be it, since there are a lot of sightings in my province. Posted 9 years ago
      1. Which paper? Corydalus cornutus has a lighter coloured pattern on the head and pronotum which is missing here.

"Finally, a group of species occurs in Central and North America (C. luteus, C. magnus, C. bidenticulatus, C. texanus, and C. cornutus)."

    1. OK, it's neither C. texanus nor C. cornutus because they have a pattern on the head. C. luteus and C. magnus are found in Costa Rica, but there aren't good photos of them to compare. According to the list above a couple of other species are found in Costa Rica too. Posted 9 years ago
  4. Scary insect, its head looks out of proportion to the rest of its body. Posted 9 years ago
