Chrysolaena platensis (Vernonia_cognata)

Weed or herb, in Paraguay, we would probably prefer to call it a herb, as most plants are considered to be medicinal in some form or another. Vernonia c. grows to a height of just over a metre. It's found at the edges of woods, and on tilled land. The shape of the rhizomes gives it it’s Guarani name “jagua ra’ỹi” dog’s testicles.

  As you have pointed out in the first link Vernonia cognata is a synonym of Chrysolaena platensis. There is no Wikipedia entry for either of them that's why you get an error. I created an entry in the database. Posted 9 years ago

      No worries, Tito, we are here to help and for new members the species process is not intuitive from the start, so here's a quick summary:
      
      - You identify the species from the dialog like you did before. 90% of the time that works. What actually happens is that JungleDragon will look on english wikipedia for a species page by that name, and then use the information found there.
      
      - On the next identification of the same species, JungleDragon will already know it, so it is instant.
      
      - In 10% of cases (roughly), you get the error. In that case no Wikipedia page exists for that species name. This can be due to it really not existing, a typo in the name, etc. In that case, JungleDragon cannot match it and throws the error. If that happens, we have to create the record manually, just like @Wildflower did. You can actually request such manual creation yourself, it is under the "advanced" toggle in the dialog. Our moderators will then get a notification and will create it for you.
      
      Sounds complex, but it comes to this: just type it in, which usually works. If not, use the "request manual creation" option. I hope this helps. Posted 9 years ago
