Large black snout beetle, Masoala NP, Madagascar Found on a fungi-covered fallen tree in Masoala NP, Madagascar. I don't recall the exact size, but it was fairly large for a snout beetle, maybe 2-3 cm (1 inch). It is overall black, with clear white stripes across the length of the body, along with some white speckles. Legs are white with black tips. Found on a fungi-covered fallen tree in Masoala NP, Madagascar. I don't recall the exact size, but it was fairly large for a snout beetle, maybe 2-3 cm (1 inch). It is overall black, with clear white stripes across the length of the body, along with some white speckles. Legs are white with black tips.

      And I learned that they are part of a family called "Fungus weevils". That makes me wonder if this one is perhaps also part of that group:

      Holonychus sp., Masoala, Madagascar Oh how I would love to know what this is. It looks like a well-camouflaged snout beetle to me. Its size is remarkable if this is the case, I estimate it at about 8 cm (3"). Africa,Geotagged,Madagascar,Madagascar North,Masoala,Spring,World
