Large black snout beetle, Masoala NP, Madagascar Found on a fungi-covered fallen tree in Masoala NP, Madagascar. I don't recall the exact size, but it was fairly large for a snout beetle, maybe 2-3 cm (1 inch). It is overall black, with clear white stripes across the length of the body, along with some white speckles. Legs are white with black tips. Large black snout beetle, Masoala NP, Madagascar

Found on a fungi-covered fallen tree in Masoala NP, Madagascar. I don't recall the exact size, but it was fairly large for a snout beetle, maybe 2-3 cm (1 inch). It is overall black, with clear white stripes across the length of the body, along with some white speckles. Legs are white with black tips.

      And I learned that they are part of a family called "Fungus weevils". That makes me wonder if this one is perhaps also part of that group:

      Holonychus sp., Masoala, Madagascar Oh how I would love to know what this is. It looks like a well-camouflaged snout beetle to me. Its size is remarkable if this is the case, I estimate it at about 8 cm (3"). Africa,Geotagged,Madagascar,Madagascar North,Masoala,Spring,World
