Xanthium spinosum / Boetebos Apparently in the old days if you had this plant on your farm you got a fine because the thorny things get stuck in the sheeps wool and lowers the value of the wool.  We had this growing on our farm last year and I took photos and posted on FB to find out what it was- shew there was such an uproar about the plant. "Xanthium spinosum" is a species of flowering plant in the aster family known by many common names, including spiny cocklebur, prickly burweed and Bathurst burr. It is known worldwide as a noxious weed that grows in many types of disturbed habitat.
