Sack of eggs? Nosy Mangabe, Madagascar

I have no idea what this slimy cocoon-like thing is. Found on the underside of a leaf in Nosy Mangabe, Madagascar.

  1. At first, I was thinking slug/semi-slug. But, I can't see any tentacles. They could be tucked in, though, and thus not visible in the photo.

The shape resembles a chrysalis (esp. family Nymphalidae). But, it looks slimy. I have never seen a slimy chrysalis. Could it just be shiny? Do you remember if it moved? I know it's an old spotting.

If just shiny, I vote chrysalis. If slimy, then slug.

      1. No problem. It'll be a good mystery to be solved by somebody at some point! Posted 2 years ago
